The Digital Index is intended for organizations that want to better understand the current status of the implementation of AI technologies in their operations. It is designed to be low-threshold so that organizations can benefit regardless of their level of digitalization to date. The Digital Index helps you to develop a sustainable and, above all, human-centered strategy for your AI projects. With this tool, you can identify specific areas for improvement and gain valuable insights to make your AI initiatives successful and future-proof.

The Digital Index is strongly application-oriented: you receive clear and actionable recommendations that help you to take targeted measures and develop your organization sustainably.

The evaluation is carried out using a traffic light system, which is displayed both in the overall rating and in the individual areas. This system provides a clear and easy-to-understand visualization of your current organizational situation.

• Green indicates that your organization is doing well in that area.
• Yellow indicates that there is room for improvement.
• Red indicates that there is an urgent need for action.

In addition to the ratings, you will receive specific recommendations for action based on the results of your evaluation. These recommendations will help you to take targeted measures to eliminate the identified weaknesses and further develop your organization`s strengths.

The KMI project investigates the socio-technical challenges that arise for the organization as a whole, but also for individual employees, when artificial intelligence methods are introduced into companies. The focus is on companies in the manufacturing sector (including mechanical engineering and automotive, suppliers and subcontractors) in the Central German mining region and Western Saxony.

The KMI research and development project is being funded as part of the " Zukunft der Arbeit: Regionale Kompetenzzentren der Arbeitsforschung – Künstliche Intelligenz" funding measure in the " Innovationen für die Produktion, Dienstleistung und Arbeit von morgen" program of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) for the period from 01.12.2021 - 30.11.2026 and is being supervised by the Karlsruhe Project Management Agency (PTKA).

The concept of "Industry 5.0" refers to the next phase of the industrial revolution, following on from the already familiar Industry 4.0. It focuses on the strengths and capabilities of both people and machines to enable more efficient and flexible production.

While Industry 4.0 mainly focuses on the automation and networking of machines and processes, Industry 5.0 emphasizes the collaboration between man and machine in order to achieve human- centered production.

By focusing on human-centered, sustainable and resilient production, organizations can achieve greater flexibility, adaptability and quality in production as well as improved employee satisfaction.
